Shop fridges and freezers across Europe hit by fresh suspected cyber-attack
Published · 1 min read
Supermarket chains across seven European countries, including Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Sweden, reported a suspected cyber-attack that caused refrigerator and freezer temperatures to rise to as high as 50°C, similar to a previous incident in France.
The EU food and agriculture commissioner expressed concern, stating that such attacks aim to disrupt the food supply chain. Retailers, including Ahold Delhaize, Coop, and Carrefour, confirmed their systems were hacked, leading to food waste and limited product availability. Authorities suspect state-sponsored actors, given the lack of financial demands, and warn of ongoing threats due to unpatched vulnerabilities in refrigeration systems.
