Fuel Oil Becomes Asia’s Next Cost Shock
Published · 1 min read
Singapore's shipping-fuel market is experiencing a significant cost increase, with high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) prices surpassing those of its crude feedstock due to disrupted supplies from the Middle East and Russia, resilient bunker demand, and high freight rates.
This regional imbalance is most pronounced in Asia, with Singapore's HSFO prices soaring above pre-war levels. While seasonal relief from Gulf producers and additional Chinese export allowances may ease the situation by year-end, the supply disruptions from Russia and the Middle East, along with high transportation costs, are likely to keep prices elevated.
