U.S. Pushes to Restore Russian Gas Flows to Europe

Published · 1 min read

The United States has proposed restoring Russian natural gas flows to Europe via Ukraine, an idea suggested by President Trump’s envoys during visits to Moscow and Kyiv in September.

This plan involves selling Russian gas through a U.S. intermediary and could provide Ukraine with revenue from renewed gas transit. It aims to lower European gas prices, especially as demand peaks in winter, but faces legal obstacles under EU restrictions. Despite EU plans to phase out Russian energy imports, this proposal could offer a temporary solution to current storage shortages, particularly in Germany.
