Call for more food funding due to high living cost

Published · 1 min read

Deputy Louise Doublet has criticized the government for ending a trial of free fruit in primary schools, arguing that cost-of-living pressures were not considered.

The trial, which ran since 2024 in four primary schools, has been discontinued due to fruit wastage. The government plans to include fresh fruit in a new school food programme providing hot meals. Doublet advocates for more investment in healthy, locally grown food to help families manage rising costs.
