Hundreds of Royal Mail staff quitting each week under new efficiency plans

Published · Updated October 16, 2026 · 1 min read

About 400 Royal Mail workers quit each week since the introduction of a new delivery system, according to the Communication Workers Union (CWU).

The system, DM26, aims to improve efficiency but has faced criticism for not working in hundreds of offices. Royal Mail claims the reforms will deliver a more efficient and sustainable service, with 90% of offices now using DM26. The CWU has called for a pause in the rollout until issues are addressed, while Royal Mail expects quality of service to improve as the system is fully implemented.
