UK meat industry hit by cyber-attack which targeted European supermarket freezers

Published · 1 min read

A cyber-attack targeting supermarket fridges and freezers across Europe, including the UK, has caused temperatures to rise in some units, potentially spoiling food.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is aware of a few instances in the UK and has advised affected organisations. The British Association of Independent Meat Suppliers (AIMS) warned its members to remain vigilant. The incident follows similar attacks in France, where hundreds of stores were affected, leading to significant food waste. The NCSC highlighted the need for better cybersecurity measures to protect critical infrastructure.
