NASA's Freeze-Resistant Moon Battery Could Eventually Reach EVs

Published · 1 min read

NASA has developed a freeze-resistant solid-state battery that could power lunar missions and potentially revolutionize electric vehicle technology.

The battery successfully operated at temperatures as low as minus 170 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for the harsh lunar environment. While still in the prototype stage, the technology could enhance the safety, temperature tolerance, and efficiency of Earth-based electronics, including EVs, and could lead to longer ranges in cold climates. NASA is also collaborating with the Department of Energy on nuclear energy technologies for deep space exploration.
